hello i just bought a mac book pro for help on my quest to learn linux and unix. but i am having this issue when i close the screen in mac os it goes into sleep mode. i have looked and i cant seem to find a way to disable it. also i cant find anything to limit the cpu speed on battery power. i can do all this easy in vista but im new to mac os so im to sure.

also. i figure now i will just wait but i got a electronic download of os x leopard from my friends adc account and i tryed to run it from the file and it wouldent boot then i tryed to burn it to a dvd -r and it would load it in mac os but wouldent boot. i dont know mac well enough to tell if its hardware but if it is let me know so i can extange it.

When I get home this evening I can take a looksee to verify if you can do it or not.

For the meantime go into System Settings and look for power settings. I've never tried to change that setting in particular but it makes no difference bacause all that happens is you loose internet connectivity. Everything comes back on as is.

To limit performance of the computer on battery power go to System Preferences>Energy Saver>Settings For: Battery

This doesn't really change the processing power. Just lets the computer sleep and turn off the display earlier.

As for the sleep when closing the lid, I cannot find anything that can be changed in that regard.

Steve is correct. When you close the lid it will go into sleep mode no matter what.

that really sucks. does anyone know of software that can moniter my cpu to see if it does slow down on battery power. i like in vista i can limit my cpu to as low as 5 % and get almost a day on batery power but its just really slow and i want to be able to take full advantage of my dual core t7700 even on battery power.

also i dont trust how hot it gets does anyone know of option cooling options?

Well I personally delt with the egg cooking heat by perfoming the reapplication of thermal paste. It void your warranty completely and is truly a dangerous venture to take on. You also need a large assortment of torx bits and small screw drivers.

I reapplied with AS5 and the machine ran much better. Still runs hot since its an aluminum case and it conducts heat, but not nearly as thigh searing as before.
