Microsoft: Halo to Replace Vista as Next-Gen Windows OS

REDMOND, WASHINGTON- Windows Vista received a devastating vote of no confidence from own creators on Friday when Microsoft announced that it would continue sales of XP amid growing concerns over the reliability and security of the long-hyped OS.

Even as Vista has become something of a candy-coated disaster in the eyes of developers and consumers alike, this week's release of Halo 3 has succeeded far beyond industry expectations. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, soaking his large head in a bowl of squonk's tears as he does every Friday morning, noticed these two headlines side by side on an industry news site and was overcome by a stroke of synergistic genius: re-brand Halo as the next generation Windows operating system.

To this end, Microsoft has merged its OS development and Xbox division much as it did in the mid-1990's when the company combined its marketing and legal departments. Development is still in its early stages, but already the signs look promising. No longer will users be allowed to search for their files like namby-pamby newbs.

Instead, they must hunt their documents down in an expansive warehouse-like game map and tag it with a rocket launcher to open it up. In addition, users will be able to kill unresponsive programs and process in a far more literal sense. All instant messaging will take place over the Xbox Live chat system, and posting on message boards will entail writing a message on a grenade and throwing it into a crowd of NPC's.
