Hi everyone,
I'm trying to use VBPRO and I got the count error. I tried following the sticky about this error and the CMD command doesn't work. I moved bcdedit from Vista's System32 to XP's system32 like the instructions say, and then tried to execute the command:
bcdedit /set {bootmgr} toolsdisplayorder {memdiag}
But I get the error message: An error occurred while attempting to reference the specified entry.
The system cannot find the file specified.
However if I just type bcdedit, I get:
Windows Boot Loader
-------------------
identifier {887aebf0-cf99-11db-8ae5-0014a5796a6e}
device partition=D:
path \windows\system32\winload.exe
description Windows Vista Business
osdevice partition=D:
systemroot \Windows
I'm trying to get the bootloader back after installing XP x64 after using Vista Business. If there is any other info you need, please let me know.
Thanks!

zsharp,
First of all let me apologize since this method did not work for you. But like most problems it is not a VBP issue. What has happened here is that all of your BCD Registry is corrupt. The easiest way for you to fix this right now is to boot to your Vista DVD once you have the option to install Vista look down for "More Options" or "Repair Options" down at the bottom of the screen. Once in that screen select "Repair System Bootloader". You are missing pretty much all the nitty gritty that makes Vista boot. ({bootmgr}, {memdiag}, {resumeloadersettings}, etc...).
If you have any problems doing that please let us know and we will help you out.
HTH,
Jason

Thank you, jbullard. I'm currently home from university this week and don't have my Vista DVD, since this was a bit impromptu. Doing such an operation without my DVD proved to be a little malicious I see. Thanks for the information. I'll do what you said as soon as I get back, as that seems to be the only solution for now.

zsharp,
It is not the only solution so I can write something up a little later and post it here. You are missing so much stuff that it will take a little configuring once we get it setup. I will get that up later.
