2 good reasons to look for updates & patches at the main microsoft download site in addition to thw windows update site.
1. Not all updates/patches are listed on the windows update site.

2. You can save the updates/patches you download from the main microsoft download site to your hard drive or removable media,so you can install them again if needed, rather then downloading them all over again from windows update.

Boring tip, but usefull. =)

Windows Update is so quick... It does all the work for you. That's what I like the best about it. With a broadband connection it isn't such a big deal if you have to download everything all over again. It takes about half an hour at the most...
