i was reading, somewhere in one of your forums, that someone had been having trouble with there machine rebooting, for no reason at all

we've been thru that one.

it turned out that the driver of my cable modem(surfboard sb4100) needed(usb) to be upgraded.

i installed an ethernet card instead.

i havent had any problems with my machine rebooting since.

but check with your cable (technitions) first before u download any new drivers. my cable company didnt know that my modem had a driver update and they advised me to use ethernet instead of usb port.

Just a note to this...I've found that while using the USB connection on a cable modem is easy and quick....it's almost NEVER the best way to go!! The direct connection that a hardware NIC gives is better in every way! Most cable companies prefer the USB because it means their tech's don't have to open the computer(hence less to go wrong!!) but too many "older" computers have USB ports that that are intermittent at best...and I've seen them not "wake up" after going to sleep...requiring a reboot to get on-line...negating the "sleep" capabilities completely!!
