Programs that work or don't - Windows Vista Enterprise CTP Build 5308

The purpose of this thread is to have a convenient list of which programs work and don't work in Windows Vista Enterprise CTP Build 5308 to include any workarounds that members may have found.

When posting, please use the following guidelines:

1) PLEASE read this first post and only post items that are NOT included on this list - the items you post will be added to this list.

2) If you have an issue with a program that is listed as working, please post to a new thread so other members can help you.

3) If you have found a way to get a program working that is on the "not working" list, please post what you did to get it to work.

4) Please try to be specific when listing software to include builds and version numbers where possible. Also, if you have installed this program on x64 please put 'x64' next to the program name.

*Note: Often because of different hardware and software set-ups there may be hardware and software that work for some members and not for others.

For example, some software may work in the x86 Edition of Windows Vista, but not in the x64. This is due to differences between the x86 and x64 architectures, and has nothing to do with Windows Vista per se.

Xfire 1.53
Yahoo Messenger
Yahoo Toolbar 6.2.4.0 (with Anti-Spy)

Works, but with some issues

AOL 9 SE - installs with no major errors, will run ok the first time, but then crashes repeatedly after that. Need to set all aol executables to run in compat mode, disable UAP, turn off Windows Defender.
Google Toolbar 3.0.131.0 - some users report installation problems relating to device drivers
Mcafee 8.0i - wont update via the updater, you have to manually install DATs and Engines.
Office 12 Beta - installs and works for the most part, but a Beta on a Beta is always iffy.
PowerDVD 4.0 - The software does not work properly with some Graphics Cards (having TV-Out), leading to the error that copy-protected DVDs cannot be played
QuickTime 6.5 - runs fine, but will disable Aero Glass while it is running
Treesize - has problems reading alot of directories due to permission settings, but works fine otherwise
Trillian basic x64 - msn plugin crashes it. But aol support is ok.
UltraVNC viewer - works fine, but the server doesn't work out of the box

Doesn't Work

Avant Browser - The tabs are unreadable, there is no "scroll bar", and not everything "fits" in the screen.
AVG - BSOD's
Cisco VPN software 4.6.0.2 - The service it needs to run doesn't install for some reason.
Daemon Tools 3.47 - BSOD during driver install
Desktop Sidebar Build 111 - Does not install
Nero 7 - encounters fatal error during installation
Netstumbler 0.4.0 - says that 'no APs active'
Norton Internet Security 2005
Slimbrowser - screen stretches to the right and no way to make it fit or get over there to see what's chopped off.

*Note: as member's posts are added to the list they will be removed from this thread and merged into the discussion thread in order to make it easy to access to the list. The discussion thread is located HERE.

If you have issues or need help with a specific program please make a seperate post in the Vista Chat & Support forum.
