Hi all

I have had DSL now for about 5 days (I think), and I am loving it!

My Bandwidth is 768D and 128D, I am getting on Average 650 on speed testing. Now seeing how I am new to all this I am curious what other users have for Bandwidth and what kind of speeds they are getting.

Also I use NetStatLive and when I am doing DL's it usually stays up around 720 or so on the incoming if the site I am dl'ing from is at least decent.

Thanks for your input here.

Rip, I have 768/128 right now and it depends on the time of day and where I test to. I just did it to a Frontier Server in Bluefield, WV and I got 719/121. Atlanta is closer, but this time of day it's even slower than some California sites. You DSL will depend on the distance from the telephone office or the SLC serving you. If you're on the fringe distance wise, then 650 probably isn't that bad. Try this one and see what you get, it's usually very fast for me.

Yea, it's strange, I thought that one was close to you. It's faster for me, but Atlanta, which is at my back door, is much slower.

I just tried your site, I have cable and this is what I got:

2003-03-22 20:48:08 EST: 1873 / 289
Your download speed : 1873472 bps, or 1873 kbps.
A 228.6 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 289645 bps, or 289 kbps.
Seems like broadband .. above the 1mbit barrier!

nice test 1189/201 on ADSL, so the net must be a bit slow, my Cisco678 is caped at 1.5 mag by the isp, did a little test on the phone line with a 56k modem the fastest it would go was 53k which is real good, your dsl is able to pull 3 mag but it depends on your isp (caped).

I have 512/256 kbps, which gets about 450 kbps on American test sites (which is of course a bit slower than on Finnish sites, because it has to go through the optical fibers every European uses to get to America).

I'm seriously concidering switching to 1 Mbit/s / 384 kbit/s, 'cause I'd get that even cheaper from another provider.

Bell1 I tried your link & got..

2003-03-23 09:16:45 EST: 617 / 120
Your download speed : 617038 bps, or 617 kbps.
A 75.3 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 120754 bps, or 120 kbps.

& at http://www.bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/index.html

I got:
Communications
672.9 kilobits per second
How communication devices are rated. Kilo means 1,000 and mega means 1,000,000. Examples include 56k modem and 10Mbit Ethernet

Storage
82.1 kilobytes per second
The way data is measured on your hard drive and how file sharing and FTP programs measure transfer speeds. Kilo is 1,024 and mega is 1,048,576.

1MB file download
12.5 seconds
The time it would take you to download a 1 megabyte file at this speed.

On my Verizon DSL 768/128 plan here in CA.

Is my storage good/ average/ poor. I am not sure about that.
Or is it called storage here instead of upload speed.
