Go from slingshots to stealth bombers in Rise Of Nations

Those who fancy the epic scale of Age of Mythology but have got only a lunch break to do it in should start honing their leadership skills now, for the release of Rise Of Nations is almost upon us. The hotly anticipated strategy title has a first rate pedigree, as it's the offspring of Brian Reynolds, who designed classics such as Civilisation II and Alpha Centauri. The parts that have already been shown were showered with awards last year.

Gameplay may loosely be described as a cross between Civilisation and Age Of Empires, and sees you sheperding your choice of nation through a whopping seven ages of human developement, starting out with pickaxes and arrows and finishing with tanks. stealth bombers, and other such trappings of modernity.

If you're not the violent type, victory can be achieved through diplomacy, espionage or sheer force of technological expansion, and battle conditions should be infinately customisable to make for a tightly honed gaming experience. It'll be released in May.
