Tobey Maguire may be forced to cancel his starring role in the sequel to Spider-Man because of a back condition.

The actor is set to play Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man this summer.

But a spokesman for the actor said he was experiencing problems with his back and may not be up to performing difficult stunts.

According to Variety.com, The Good Girl star Jake Gyllenhaal has been lined-up as a possible reserve.

Maguire's spokeswoman said: "After doing two physically demanding films in a row, Tobey has experienced mild discomfort in his back, which is in the final stages of healing

"With an April 12 start date around the corner, everyone involved wants to be certain he is able to do the intense stunts."

Last month, Maguire's agents renegotiated a record £11 million deal for the sequel.

He agreed to star in the movie last spring, prior to the first film's release.

I read this a while ago... what would they do if he couldn't play the part??

Or why can't they dress someone else up in the suit and he just do the other scenes... huh

I am sure they could pull it off with or without him. Stunt doubles and CGI would do the trick.

And if you haven't seen "The Good Girl" yet, DON'T!

It's horrid....I would be sorely disappointed if they brought Jake Gyllenhaal as the replacement. Terrible Terrible Terrible :barf:

This upsets me. I was worried when I first read that Tobey McGuire was to play Spiderman. In my mind's eye, he didn't fit the role. After seeing him though, he was perfect for it. I hope that they find a way to work around this.

No, my first Bond movie starred Roger Moore, so I got use to him and he will always be my image of Bond.
