Looking at the stats, it appears the bulk, and I do mean bulk, of all folks never even remotely touch our homepage here at PRO. That includes most of our members.
So, I'm thinking of ditching the front page news only model that we've used for so long and going back to a more interactive (features) model. Don't worry, the news will still be categorized like now, just not on the homepage all by itself. Think Version 17ish
What else would you like to see on our homepage?

WOW, its amazing how much the site has progressed since 2001. Great job guys!
I think it'd be cool to have something fun on the homepage, I don't know exactly what though. And also a link to VBP, but you probably have that in your plans.

Yeah, I'm not sure exactly what to do about the homepage. I mean, especially right now where we're trying to promote community interaction, anything that's relatively static on the homepage isn't going to help that cause too much. The news currently on the front page can be found in the forums anyway. Now, maybe if we could integrate some kharma system into Pro, then on the homepage you could list the hottest threads and helpful members (members get +kharma from other members when they do something really good/out of the ordinary, I'm sure you've seen the system before, just like a way of giving someone props). Displaying relavent information that links people back to the community would be the best option in my opinion.

You know, I'm actually considering moving us (not the community, but site's external features) to a CMS driven system.
I'm having a hard time deciding between e107, Drupal, and Joomla though. I like e107 so far, but Drupal also has some nice features.

It looks very interesting. While phpbb is nice and familiar to forumites, it is rather limited in functionality I suppose and worth giving alternatives a go

I think for forum purposes phpbb is still our best bet... including an upgrade to phpbb3 in due time.
But our news, blogs, album, video sharing, etc could be much better handled by a CMS system.
Graham, I'm going to play with it some more, but I'll set you up an account to play around with as well.
