Over the past couple of weeks we have seen numerous instances where individuals are saying that the VistaBootPRO Run Diagnostics generates an
Index Count error and they are unable to use this feature.
The number one cause of the Index Count error has to deal with Windows Vista installation errors. You may not receive any errors during installation; however, it did.
So how do you fix this permanently to avoid the Index Count error and have the ability to use Run Diagnostics. It is fairly simple. Just ensure that you follow the steps correctly.
Some steps may differ depending on which OS you can boot to.
For users who can only boot to XP or Earlier Version
Step 1: Copy bcdedit.exe
- Goto the Windows Vista installation drive -> Windows\System32 and copy
bcdedit.exe to the Windows XP installation drive -> Windows\system32
Step 2: Open Command Prompt
- Click on Start -> Run -> Type in cmd -> Hit entry
OR
- Click on Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt

For users who can only boot to Vista
Step 1: Open Command Prompt
- Click on Start -> Programs -> Accessories
- Right Click on Command Prompt and 'Run As Administrator'

Step 3: Change Directories
- In Cmd Prompt type in
cd \
Step 4: The Commands
- Type in
bcdedit /set {bootmgr} toolsdisplayorder {memdiag}
Step 5: VistaBootPRO Fixed
- Launch VistaBootPRO and Run Diagnostics again
