Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis
too easy for the experts, but otherwise an excellent and compelling distraction
While attempting to create dinosaurs from long-dead mosquitoes is outlandish, history has shown us that creating a decent game from a film licence - particularly one as old as Jurassic Park - is almost impossible.
However, there's clearly been some research carried out, as
Operation Genesis is surprisingly good, placing you in control of a dinosaur theme park. The management objective is to balance your books while breeding dinosaurs, cleaning up litter and stopping the exhibits from snacking on the guests, but what really stands out is the amount of detail in every level.
You have to manage your teams of palaeontologists searching for samples, and geneticists using them to breed, and then use the results in such a way that your park successfully combines realism, etertainment, and crowd-pleasing gore.
Management is made more entertaining by experiencing your attractions first-hand, and piloting the rangers helicopter to sedate escaped dinosaurs or rescue lost guests, and there's some simple standalone missions if the strategy element loses its appeal.
Unfortunately, everything's a bit to easy to make the game really challenging, but it's so accessible and entertaining it's well worth a look.
