Hey guys.

Just found this forum - so Hello smile

I have just had two copies of Vista OEM delivered, first is Home Premium, second is Ultimate. The Home Ultimate is for the work pc and the Premium os for my home pc.

Before i start i have looked through the forums and google and most of the problems seem to boil down to Foxcom motherboards so that counts me out of that fix sad

I get cracking on installation on the work PC (Home Premium) and all goes perfectly, no problems at all. I then start it on my home PC (Tried both Ultimate and Home Premium on my home pc) and it boots up does the first two ticks on the list then it does its first reboot, comes up to the black screen where you have (c) microsoft corporation with the progress bar above it just like the old one on XP used to look like and it freezes there every time - wont even show the progress bar.

I have now tried the Ultimate and Home Premium, tried booting from the CD, tried upgrading from inside XP Pro but whatever i do it gets to that screen and does the same thing every time.

When I do restart manually and enter Windows XP Pro I get the following message: Your version of Windows has been restored, and you can continue to use it. Before trying to install this version of Windows again, check to see if it is compatible with your computer. Go to Microsoft website (www.microsoft.com) and search for "upgrade advisor".

Done the upgrade advisor and all seems ok, called MS Support and well lets say i wont be calling them again - no help at all.

My PC specs are:

P4 3.2
1 Gig of Ram (1 X 1Gig)
1 SATA HDD - 2 partitions (40 and 250)
7600 GT
LG DVD Writer
MB is an Intel 945 GM2

Any help you guys could offer would be really appreciated.

Edit NT50: Change the subject line

Justso nooen wastes their time replying now it is fixed.

Seems that if there is even if 1 tiny piece of hardware that Vista doesnt like it just wont install - no errors - no nothing.

Took out the GFX card as well as the wireless PCI card and it installed fine, once installed you can put them back in. YAY

Great to hear you got it fixed!! And BTW, welcome to PROnetworks! Sometimes it boils down to the little things.........lol And your 'discovery' is something that many folks not so tech-wise probably wouldn't figure out either; definately something MS needs to work with the hardware folks on.......... Enjoy the site!

I had the exact same problem and it took many hours testing absolutely everything else but I never considered that the pci wireless card would cause problems. I have one difference though, I completed the installation and put the card back in but Vista still can't boot. I have used this card in another Vista PC before, anyone know what's wrong?
