Take To The Skies
The sixties are back, but this time with jets.
Flight sims aren't renowned for their accessibility, and if jets are involved then you're often denied even the fun of a close-combat dogfight thanks to the devilry of fly-by-wire and long-range missiles.
Just Flight are hoping to turn that all around with the release of
Strike Fighters:
Project 1, which offers the world's best known combat jet in the form of the
F4 Phantom II, and a simple yet properly challenging flying experience.
This has been achieved thanks to the technological limitations of the 1960s setting, when jets were simple. Fighting was up close and personal, and niceties like heat-seeking missiles were rare and unreliable. Naturally, it all looks excellent thanks to the 5,000 polygons squeezed onto each plane, and with award-winning flight sim veteran Tsuyoshi "TK" Kawahito behind it, it should be a treat for fans and novices alike.
