I was wondering how to change the boot drive in this configuration:

Entry # 1

Name: Microsoft Windows Vista
BCD ID: {current}
Boot Drive: C:
Windows Drive: C:
System Bootloader: \Windows\system32\winload.exe
Windows Directory: \Windows

Entry # 2
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Name: Previous Versions of Windows
BCD ID: {659d3192-3a10-11db-9333-005056c00008}
Boot Drive: D:
Windows Drive:
System Bootloader: \ntldr
Windows Directory:

I want to change it from D:\ to G:\ because I am planning to empty. I have Windows XP installed in G:\ already, just want ntldr detected from that drive.

The easiest way to do this is to go ahead and install XP into that partition, and then after it has been installed add it to the Boot Menu in Manage OS Entries. Or, you can just change that drive letter in VBP once selected in the OS List (Manage OS Entries) click on "Rename OS" and then select a drive letter. However, you will not be able to get into your current XP installation unless you go back in and change it back.

jbullard, much appreciate your reply. I see the trick you are saying. The easiest way would be reinstalling Windows XP on G:\

I will rename the following folders:
WINDOWS to WindowsOld
Users to UsersOld
Applications to ApplicationsOld

of Windows XP in G:\

and reinstall Windows XP on G:\

I will then boot into WinPE and rename old folders back to what they were originally ( of course, after renaming the new Windows folder etc.).

Sounds like a plan.

I am still wondering if it is possible to make this change without having to reinstall Windows. Whatever the Windows setup does to the HDD, we should be able to do by current tools out there.
