LucasArts reveals another game in the Jedi Knight series.

LucasArts has announced that the follow-up to Jedi Knight II, Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, is currently in development for the Xbox and PC at Raven Software. In the game, players will assume the role of an apprentice at Luke Skywalker and Kyle Katarn's Jedi academy on Yavin 4, where they can learn different powers associated with the force. Interestingly, players can customize their characters by choosing their species, gender, clothing, and various physical attributes.

In addition, players can even customize their lightsabers by selecting a specific hilt and blade color--though additional types of lightsabers, including the popular dual-blade lightsaber, will have to be unlocked by progressing through the game. Of course, other weapons will also be available, such as the blaster, blaster rifle, wookiee bowcaster, and electromagnetic pulse gun. The game will also feature both single-player and multiplayer modes.

"With the overwhelming success and critical acclaim of Star Wars: Jedi Outcast, continuing an alliance with Activision and Raven Software was a clear and very easy decision," said Simon Jeffery, president of LucasArts. "As they did with its best-selling predecessor, Raven will bring to Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy innovative, dynamic, and challenging gameplay that honors the well-respected legacy of the series."

Jedi Academy is scheduled for release on the PC and Xbox in fall 2003.
