Can anyone advise re vistabootpro settings and whether they are causing an issue?

I had to use bootpro 3.1 to set Vista to enable VGA mode to complete RC2 install (as I had no video signal otherwise).

I now have a fully operational RC2, but even having installed Nvidia 96.33 Drivers for my 2x7600GT cards in this rig, the system defaults to lowest resolution 640 x 800 on boot up or even switch user.

CAn anyone advise if thsi is related to the VGA enabled in bootpro and now I have the graphics drivers installed do I still need thsi VGA enabled in bootpro, or should I uncheck that box?

Uncheck the box and then Apply

That function adds an application switch to the boot configuration data store and until you change it back to default, it will apply.

I see you have Nvidia cards in both rigs and 2 x cards in your AMD rig.

Can you advise are you using RC2 Vista and the 96.33 Nvidia graphics drivers and is the Nvidia control panel functioning?

I will switch of the VGA thing in bootpro when I get home, but I am worried that when I start Nvidia Control panel (which I can only do from Vista Control Panel), I do not get resolution controls etc as the Nvidia drivers seem to think I have two monitors and this dual monitor is a known bug that remains in 96.33 drivers so nothing else then works.

I was wondering if this was casued by the SLI cards?

No matter what card one uses even if it is not SLI or Crossfire capable but is able to run two monitors, you will have a primary and a secondary display in Vista

I use in-the-box drivers that Vista setup installs for both my SLI and non-SLI systems and have never had an issue with them. At this stage, as far as I can tell, it is not necessary to install the drivers from nVidia and there is no benefit to doing so for me when I have. The nVidia control panel at this stage seems to give me no additional settings of any use to me.

The issue is currently that whenever I reboot or even switch users in Vista my video resolution resets to 640 x 800.

Initially I just used Vista display properties to change to correct 1280 x 1024, but they just reset, so I thought I would load the Nvidia drivers to see if that worked, but I cannot even adjust resolution from within Nvidia Control panel.

Anyway, I think the low resolution is down to VGA enabled having been checked in vistabootpro 3.1 (as I had no video at all to finish Vista install), so I will uncheck this when back at home tonight and wil see if that solves issues, as once set to 1280 x 1024 the screen works fine.

If I still have issues this evening I will post some more details.

Are you running SLI with two cards installed?

Yes, I suppose so as SLI is on "Auto" in BIOS so it would detect the two cards, but without an Nvidia Control Panel to enable SLI for the drivers I can't see how it would work?

SLI doesn't work at this stage. See SLI still not supported in Windows Vista

I change to single display mode in the BIOS during Vista setup and then once setup is complete, I change back to dual displays and that seems to work fine but obviously without SLI

Wierd thing is that it is working fine, it's just the resolution resetting and no Nvidia control panel.

I will try to uncheck VGA in Vistabootpro 3.1, see if resolution stays at 1280 x 1024 first and then if that doesn't work will think about disabling SLI in BIOS for Vista, but having now installed would that have any effect?

No problems - having unchecked VGA wotsit in VistaBootPro 3.1 Vista now boots fine with 1280 x 1024 resolution and everything (apart from Nvidia control panel) works fine.

Seems that even without disabling SLI this new build can cope, as the load (clean install on new, but NTFS formatted partition) ran in what seemed like no time (apart from black screen - which needed VGA enabled check box in VistaBootPro).

Let's hope this means the final release will be even easier to install.
