I'm tired of my Panasonic FZ5 camera, i've finally decided to buy a SLR camera. Can anyone make a suggestion, i was looking at the Nikon D80 and the Canon Rebel XTi, which one is better.
Which lenses would you recommend for these camera's. BTW, i will be purchasing it from Henry's
Thanks

IMO, go with Canon. I've always had Canon point & shoots, and I purchased a Canon 30D in spring of this year and couldnt be happier (unless I had the 5D!). The XTi looks like a good camera. Plus resale of Canon products (lenses/bodies) are the best you can get.

Nikon (But thats coming from an old photographer) Either Nikon or Cannon and you will get quality. Among the pros there were two schools, the guys who used Nikon and the ones who wished they had...ok kidding. Really all my years of shooting those were all that pros would consider, unless you can afford Leica, but thats a whole new ball of wax there.
The main reason I went with Nikon over canon, is beacuse at the time I was buying my camera systems, Nikon cameras used all Nikon lenses, and I believe the same is still true today (mind you, that you cant stick an auto focus lens on an old F body and expect it to focus, but the lens will work on the old body.)
Cannon had two lines of lenses the ones that were AF and the ones that weren 't. I have to admint that is still a good reason if its still true (and I dont see how they could have changed two diffrent mounting systems to combine them into one, so its more than likely still true)
Any way either one of those, Nikon or Cannon and you will be happy.

The Nikkor DX 18-200 lens is amazing, but it looks very expensive, i'd probably have to drop back to the 18-135

I am thinking of the same. I spoke with a pro photographer. He has both and the Canon is faster. He said he would go cannon all the way except he still has a lot of lens that fit a Nikon.
BTW I'm look at buying this camera.

A local store has the camera new and I will be getting the 25 to 55 lens with it but I am buying a 55 to 150 lens for taking pics of my son playing sports.

Are you still liking your Nikon? Did you order it from the internet? I was looking at the Xti here in Jackson TN at a store and I can buy the XTi at $800 2/ 25 to 55 lens and $180 for 55 to 300 lens. The Nikon will be $200 more.
