VistaBootPRO - BCDEdit Made Easy

Announcing VistaBootPRO 2.1 Beta - NEW & EVEN BETTER!!

The PROnetworks Betas Team and Staff are pleased to let everyone know that VistaBootPRO, the original program developed by our PROnetworks Betas Team and the Beta Testing Forum, is now available for download! That's right!! The update to the original VBPro 1.0 and 2.0 beta you've been waiting for is HERE! There are LOADS of new features and you'll be dazzled by the new and improved GUI interface. We have added full support for Vista Beta 2 and Build 5456, as well as included a number of new and improved features. VistaBootPRO 2.1 Beta has been written using Microsoft C# for added reliability and stability, and added full support for Windows Vista Beta 2 and Build 5456 as well.

VistaBootPRO is used to make changes to the Windows Vista Boot Configuration Data (BCD) registry quickly and easily, doing the job in a fraction of the time it would take using the alternative. The only other way to edit the BCD is to use the command prompt application bcdedit.exe, located in the Windows\system32 folder of Windows Vista. bcdedit.exe requires users to become familiar with the ins and outs of the bcdedit.exe application switches and options, leaving many frustrated users in its path.

Designed for both beginners and advanced users, VistaBootPRO can be used to make "cosmetic" changes to the Windows Vista boot Menu such as changing the name of the Operating Systems shown in the boot menu and make advanced "functional" changes like adding an Operating System to the boot menu and repairing the Windows Vista boot configuration data. Advanced settings include backing up and exporting your boot loader configuration and modifying various details for the entries. Included in this latest release are additional features, including a built-in help file and more advanced boot configuration options.

VistaBootPRO 2.1 Beta, while being feature complete and fully functional, is still a Beta application and is an ongoing project. VistaBootPRO's continued development and functionality will need input from all Windows Vista users. Please help us in our efforts to make your Windows Vista experience easier and better (particularly during the 'transition phase' when we all will be moving to using Windows Vista), by using VistaBootPRO and giving us feedback on your experience with it; we are sure you will love VistaBootPRO!!

Some really good news is that VistaBootPRO 2.1 Beta works perfectly on Windows Vista Build 5472 X86. Obviously there was no major change to bcdedit.exe or bootsect.exe in this build of Vista harley

This is great because it was real easy to backup the BCD, so I can experiment and crash things and confidently know that I can get the system back up and running in minutes

The new BCD save feature is excellent and with it, one can restore the BCD by booting to the "System recovery options" of the Vista DVD and it is easy to restore a good BCD by using the following command from the command prompt:

bcdedit /import "C:\VBPback.bcd"

(where C:\ is the location of the backup and VBPback.bcd is the name of the backup file - that is the default name and location of the file saved in VistaBootPRO 2.1)
