I try to think about it in the sense of how much I pay for a gallon everything else.

Gas costs me $1.53. How much do I pay for a gallon of milk. Or water. How much would a gallon of oil for my car costs when I change its oil. How about a gallon of orange juice, or a gallon of lemonaide. How much do I pay for the equivilant to a gallon of alcohol? If you sit back and think about it in comparison... a gallon of gasoline is nothing. You pay more for a gallon of orange juice, and in some place just a gallon of spring water wink

In another study, and I find this interesting.

Gas costs 1.10 here a few months ago.

53 cents went to state government.
40 more cents went to other government, taxes, etc.
10 cents was for miscellanious fees.
9 cents was for transportation of the fuel and pumps.
1 cent went to the store that sold it.

That's almost sad for the business of selling gas. It's no wonder they can't compete any more than they do.

I think almost 300% of the price of petrol is tax over here...
The same thing applies to cars (well not that much, but 46%!)

What gets me is living out in the country...anytime I want/have to go anywhere...it's about a 25 minute drive (one way - without much traffic)...which equals about 1/8 of a tank... hmmm

Still...I would rather pay more for the gas than to move into the city... smilenod

When you live out like I do...you have to plan all your trips into town...it's usually an "excursion"...ranging anywhere between 2 1/2 - 6 hours in town...except for work of course...try to go out no more than once every 2 weeks for errands...but most of the time...still requires one or two more short trips...(sigh)... sad ...ironically...the closest stop for me is the "gas station"... lol

Do you actually live in the Mountains Michel? We come through your way ALL the time, but I'm trying to get a general idea of the area in my head.

WOOHOO! John has a gallon of alcohol!

The question here John is how long does a gallon of Gas last you versus a gallon of milk (or alcohol wink).... Average round trip to work for me is 30 to 35 miles. My car gets 24 mpg. Therefore, as long as I don't go out to lunch or make any side trips to the store, a gallon of gas will last me less than one day. A gallon of milk is around 3 bucks a gallon, but lasts me around 7 days. a gallon of orange juice the same. Now the gallon of alcohol.... 30 minutes... :woot

John...this whole area is a valley in the mountains...the southern gateway of the "Smokies"...the topography ranges from what I would call hills to smaller mountains...although we do have some pretty steep ones here...what makes it seem so high to most people is the fact that no one knows how to build mountain roads around here... rolleyes ...instead of circling up to the top of the mountain...they choose the shortest path...straight up... confused ...very stupid...causes a lot of problems around here in the winter...that's why most people who live in the mountains here...can't get in or out after snow or icy weather... anino

To me...I live in the smaller mountains...but remember I have lived all over the great Northwest...Now there...you have some "big" mountains... smilenod

Even when you are downtown here...if you will look around...you will notice that we have many changes in altitude...so I guess it's all a matter of perspective...but yes...I live in the mountains... smile

Do you ever go up to "Highlands"...that's a really pretty drive...including waterfalls you can stop and view up close... smilenod
