I installed Google Toolbar right after I installed Vista. It's always the first thing I install after AV. It has always worked fine and it does now. I also use Yahoo Toolbar. Both work with no issues.

Maybe I'll try it again, although I am more skeptical it would work now with having other programs running in background like Sidebar, but hey! I can take a few more BSOD's..............lol

Well, the best thing to do is install it with nothing running in the background. Personally, I didn't turn anything off at all. But your best bet is to shut that stuff down.

It appears that there is a conflict between Desktop Sidebar and the Windows Sidebar. I haven't quite solved it yet, but this has happened twice:

1) DS starts at startup. I start Sidebar. Both work fine next to each other.
2) At some point, maybe 6 hours later, DS suddenly freezes. The Sidebar Clock Gadget is still running, but the DS is frozen.
3) I try to bring anything up and nothing works: Control Panel, Explorer, etc.
4) I bring up Task Manager via the taskbar and I try to close DS. It does close, but the process stays running. No matter how many times I close the process, it stays running.
5) I try to log off using CTL-ALT-DEL.
6) I click Log Off, but it takes me back to Windows with everything cloudy and nothing working. It doesn't log me off.
7) I try to log off using CTL-ALT-DEL, but instead I get a dialog that says the Security Dialog cannot open (the screen with Log Off, etc. on it won't open).
8) Now I am in an endless loop. All I can do is hit CTL-ALT-DEL, close the dialog, and I'm back again.
9) The only thing I can do now is use the shutdown button and restart the computer. Then everything is fine.

I'm now running with just DS and no Windows Sidebar and will see what happens.

Ok, the Sidebar that is in Vista is "different" from this "desktop sidebar"?? I'm confused now

No no...Desktop Sidebar is a 3rd party app. See HERE.

Ok, I see now......... except why you're running both...........lol

I think based on what I see, I might switch to the 3rd party app............. looks much nicer

Welllll.....I have used Desktop Sidebar for years. Actually, I helped with its development before I came here to PRO. Desktop Sidebar was used as the basis for the Vista Sidebar. At one point, there was the possibility that Desktop Sidebar would actually become the Vista Sidebar. But Microsoft went on to develop their own. About a month ago, the developer of Desktop Sidebar was hired by Microsoft.

Many of us here have used it and love it, and I have helped with support for it because I know so much about it. Now that the (Windows) Sidebar is officially in Vista, I am running them side-by-side to see if they will work together.

I just got the beta and put it on XP............ took about an hour and I had to shut it down, as it was taking 99% of CPU......... hmmmm but then I haven't tossed out any of the pre-configured setups it has

I like it and will mess with it in Vista tomorrow
