I voted for liking him, but for apparantly different reasons to everyone else. Even though's he can afford it, I like the fact he's set up his own charity, and has made the worlds largest charitable donation from an individual - literally billions of dollars. I like him for that - and the fact his company makes good software!

I voted yes since no idiot can become the worlds riches man. And no matter how over priced his products are, it is probably the reason that we are all here right now. And he's already donated billions of his fortune.

I think what he did for the industry has been great.
But the fact he's still charging 200 bucks for Windows is plain ridiculous.
I'm on the fence... despite all his great accomplishments.

But look at all the adobe and other developers, they charge thousands. Considering what Windows can do it is really cheap.

That's a good point too.
Quite frankly the Software Industry and the Music Industry are both greedy.
But I often wonder, of all of us who complain... would we run the business any differant if we sat on that Board or were the head person? I doubt it. Money's tempting when it's there.
I just looked up the top 10 weathiest people... I didn't know that the bottom 5 are ALL Walton's with 20 Billion each. Together they make Bill Gates look poor almost, LOL.

JOHN, do you believe that it costs him like 50 bucks or less a cd of any os just to sell it at 200 bucks?.
i will appreciate price reduction, but knowing that we always ask for more and better which usually adds to the cost of production. i will exchange the pice cut to a better os

Bill Gates is an entrepreneur, from what I can tell, and not much else. He didn't really come up with anything particularly ingenious; he either bought it or hired engeeniers to come up with it for him. However, I must agree with the general sentiment that Microsoft products are easier to use and more full featured than most other alternatives. That doesn't mean I respect the man, though.

Oh I respect him for being able to build such a gigantic company. and he really is an entrepreneur, but, you're right about one thing, Microsoft products are the easiest to use. For Linux, anyway (haven't played with MAC much), you about have to know prgramming in order to even use it. Bill may have hired engineers eventually, but originally, he was the sole programmer. To begin his work, HE did the programming of the original DOS, which so far, has had the best disk tools of all windows versions combined. Let's face it, XP Scandisk sucks. It doesn't tell you squat. Disk defragmenter isn't too bad in XP. At least it doesn't restart a thousand times without being in "Safe Mode" which in my opinion is a glorified Windows 3.1 with a few more features - at least in Me, 9x.
