We'll I've watched the movie "The Day After Tomorrow" and I really commend the producer of the movie for creating. It maybe just a another sci-fi movie but It sure did raise some major issues regarding the possibility of it happening in our lifetime. The events in the movie might have been overly exaggerated but is it really impossible to happen?

Global Warming is no sci-fi issue but a clear reality that our planet is undergoing some major changes. The effects of global warming has been the topic of countless forums which eventually fell on deaf ears. It seems there are no sincere move to alleviate the problem.

Extreme weather conditions have been occuring in every part of the planet. It may not be as extreme as to what happened in the movie but this abnormal condition should not be ignore. This are signs that something is not right. This abnormal conditions are increasing as years passed.

Everybody has the responsiblity to do his share in protecting our planet. We don't need to wait for something as extreme as the movie to happen before we realize our mistake. Each and everyone can do something, after all this is the only planet we got!!!!

I tend to understand Earth , environment and the beings ( human , animals , plants ) as a part of a body. When ther's something wrong in your body there are certain symptoms : fever , cough perhaps and so on. The body , has to fight the situtaion that caused the instability whatever the consequencies might be. This is how earth is going to react in the fever we cause. And it going to fight it no matter what.
I also believe that we don't really understand the power of the ecosystem. I think the effects on the movie might not come even close to the real thing.

Besides mother earth would rid herself of the annoyances, before we could cause any real damage.
Humans have been in the habit or overestimating their real role in the grand scheme of things, short of nuclear catastrophe (sp), it is way far fetched and intended to scare you. A good horror flick that’s all.

I don't agree with you. Now you say it is just a movie, but if it is getting warmer, and it is, you can get really big problems. Sea level can raise due to melting of ice on antarctica. Pinguins will die because the have no lifespace. You'll get an world of extremes. Cold and freezing and/or hot and dry. Thats no good for mother earth . 'It's just a film' isn't true. The way things are viewed in the film may not look real, but something decent may happen about 100 years. Now we have chance to do something. I think everyone should learn from this movie. And do you know, Americans ONLY have 36% of this issue in hand!

Do you spend all day sitting at your desk worrying about getting hit by a bus at lunch? No, I live in the south, I dont spend all winter worrying about getting hit by a tornado(although I make it a point never to move near a trailer park, cause it seems that tornados do have a unusual attraction to them) However they did make a cheesy movie about tornados, where was all the eco-waco blubber about that? IT is really unimportant. I guess it means its a pretty good flick if people are all worked up about it.
Things are really good right now, more so than the eco doom and gloom crowd would want you to belive. so enjoy your self and dont turn into chicken little. Things really are not so bad. Hell they were hollering about the next ice-age 20yrs ago. now they flip and say its the opposite. Point is its just a movie made by some hollywood wierdo, so dont read too much into it.

Atkins it bad for you, now atkins is good for you. all of your suposed experts dont know which way is up. they would have us all beliving that the earth is flat if it fit thier need. IT is only a movie, so it is make belive, fariy tale, 36% of what in hand. I dont think I know where your going with that.
Drink 64 oz of water a day, no wait your flushing out good vitamens. see what I mean, give someone angle and they will work it as long as its profitable for them.
If you dont buy all there eco-terror crap they me be out of a job in a few years.

Actually speaking from a Climate point of view...

This movie does have far fetched explanations for what will happen in a given period of time... days.

However, the results of the movie, and how it ends are NOT far fetched at all. In fact they are part of a regular cycle. It's been going on for millions of years. Eventually we'll get back into the Ice Age part, and the movie is pointing out, though subtly, that humans are only aiding the processes of global warming that usually occur by natural means, like the sun being closer in the NA Summer, other Orbital Changes, etc, etc...

Point to be made is... we don't know what effects humans are having and to what degree, but we do know we're causing the earth to warm much faster than it has in 400,000 years. Clearly this should cause at least some concern. I'd down right call it ignorance if you didn't.

The movie itself means nothing to me as I never get carried away from a film even if it is a really worthy movie.
I have to totaly disagree with you when it comes to environment. I live in a country where human - environment harmony is everything. I have learned to take care and not afraid of nature.
You can't be a chicken when you are worried about the environment. It is something you have borrowed from your children. Even if Mother-Earth's powers is beyond our imagination we can't destroy everything just because Mother will find a way.

Bas is also correct in his assessment that the United States is responsible for a large portion of GHG's emissions... as are China, India and other countries not listed on the Kyoto Protocol (which was mentioned in the movie briefly, but it almost dead anyway).
