Life finds a way... with or without humans. While I think he's right, I think it's dangerous (for humans) to think like that.

We seem to have this false sense of the idea there is a turning point we will reach before we have to turn our act around. Unfortunately, "that time may have come and gone" (to quote the movie)... CO2 alone stays in the ATM for 50-200 years. That'd be 2204 before it's all gone... how many generations is that?

We are but at the tip of the iceburg right now people... even if we reduce today, the future will remain in question. That's the simple truth to it from a scientific point of view.

More than anything crop yields are in danger... they drop 10% per 1 degree change C.

The point rip seems to miss is that movies like this are useful to engender public awareness of the potential hazards that face them with the abuse that man has caused on this planet. The technical director of this movie based a lot of the thinking for it on actual fact. Granted fiction took over, but if you listen to Kanaloa's (John's) viewpoint, (and he's studying this at the moment) We will pay a heavy price for the abuse of this planet, and natural resources are not finite. In my lifetime i could list literally hundreds of examples of the changes to this world through man's abuse. All the signs are there, and i for one am glad we have movies such as this, if it just makes one individual stop and think about the implications of their actions on Mother Earth.

I personally support the Kyoto Protocol and would kindly take the steps in my personal life to abide by it.

I'm with you on this one John. Irrespective of freedom, we all have a responsibilty to our fellow human being. We cannot afford to be selfish. If you wish to eat and drink all you want, then that's fine as you are only harming yourself and you will pay the price for your own folly. But when it comes to participating in events that have proven to cause harm and destruction to others in the world, then that's a different matter. I agree that all nations should comply with the Kyoto Protocol. After all they have proven without any doubt the harm and destruction we are causing in this world, and we have no right to pass on such a legacy to the next generation.

but like i said its a free country. I spent 20 years as a granola eating, sandle wearing, tree hugging hippy.(belive it or not i did, follow the dead eat vagen and recycle any thing that stood still long enough for me to pick it up) then I got a job grew up and realized the suposed idealogical way of living was for those that could afford it. with no trust fund to support my belifes, I have to shop at wal-mart with the rest of the unwashed masses, no matter they are the great satan that is eating the world, and so on and so on. And the world is not going to end next week if I dont seprate the green glass from the clear. Are planet is a long way from being done in, I didnt wreck it I dont need to be told by some pompass arrogant a** that Im ruining it. After all he will ride in his limo to his private jet, after he finishes counting all the cash he made off of those that paid to buy recycled tickets to see his movie.
I dont litter, I recycle when I can, and buy recycled when I can, And I dont need to be told by some "person" who lives in another country that Im not doing my part, that my country is the reason the world is the way it is.

I agree with you Dalsim.... Not because we are not directly affected with the perceive effects of global warming that we choose not to do anything about it....I guess its a selfish response to the call for action. Also, I believe that It is just right that we do our share for the welfare of our planet.... the same thing our ancestor did for us.

Just imagine that one day the future generation would resort of venturing to another habitable planet just to survive because their ancestors (which is us) didn't care enough to take care of the only planet we have for a reason that they are not affected.

We'll I guess the problem in this world is not war nor power but people caring less for other people. If only we could care for others unconditionally, our world would be a much better place to live on.

Ok guys, I went and say your movie, cool flick. I espically liked that where the tempatures droped below 150 degrees and those dudes in the helecopters froze, that was COOL. but anyway back to me original point, its just a movie, and not even remotely close to anything that could really happen. But I will recycle more and do my part. It was a great debate guys.
OH here is the real kicker, I live in north west louisiana, where we were hit with tropical storms of a massive scale and half way though the move the power went out and they had to close the theater because of the storms.....ooohhh spooky. but all in all it was a good flick, cant wait for the end. (the power died right when the ship was sailing thorugh the streets of new york) so Like i said I live in a area with out power or internet, came to a friends offfice (he works for the cancer center at the hospital so they always have power and internet.)
so I will holla when we have our utilites back
