Has anyone played around with Gateway's new media center pc?
I was thinking about buying one and was just looking for other peoples opinions.

I think your better off learning to build your own machine. You can get a better value for your dollar buying your own parts. Its not too hard to put together. Lots of info on the net and another good thing is most parts only fit together one way. =^.^=

Yeah, build your own or buy it from someone other than Gateway. I've been unsatisfied with their support and repair.

you will not need windows xp media center edition, system should be whatever you desire and any operating system will do.

you will need also one of these programs: showshifter, ati multimedia, intervideo home entertainment etc, they all come with a remote control.

marmitek control {standalone RC} girder software makes any universal RC to work with pc.

there are posts about showshifter and intervideo here, price is from 50$ <>100$

Yeah, Media Center isn't really nessessary. Its just M$ trying to take over your TV like their failed attempts on WebTV.
All you really need to do is (and you can also use your existing computer) get a bigger HDD, a better processor if you want, and a TV tuner card such as the ATI All In Wonder Radeon cards.

i built my media center system, with digital tv.

hardwares:
Amd 2600+
winxp pro
flatscreen monitor + widescreen tv
trend micro satelite reciever card {pci card}
showshifter multimedia program
marmitek remote control +girder driver
120 gb drive

my system can be controlled from every room, this same RC controlls tv/vcr/home entertainment set.

Welcome aboard jsbauche.
It seems Michaelangels has all the info you need.
Michael , you can control all the media features of your machine from everywhere in the house via the RC or the network ?
