Oh john you can use the Select-A-Net program to save you network settings as well. That way you can restore them easily if something does go wrong.

I just noticed one small glitch... I can't seem to get the router's control thing up anymore by using the routers IP. Weird...

I also still can't get my laptop to see the files wirelessly.... but it can see the net again. When it was hardwired, it could do both.

You used the default gateway provided in the properties of your LAN connection right?

John, here are a couple of sites you might want to read. The first link explains the difference between a hub, switch and router. The second link has some trouble shooting tips. Good luck

After reading some of the post, I don’t under stand why you would be using a bridge connection. Unless you have it for a reason, I would delete all bridge connections and just use the local area connections. Don’t use or delete the 1394 connections; I’m pretty sure that is the FireWire adapter. You should only be using the local area connection on all your machines. I would say setup your router to DCHP. Let Bell South assign an IP address automatically. Once you got your main PC setup, right click the Bell South connection, properties>advanced and check the box “allow other network users to connect through this computer’s internet connection”.

On all other machines, (Not the main PC), double click the TCP/IP and set to “obtain IP address and DNS automatically”. Setup a home or small office network. Make sure you have MSHOME or WORKGROUP on all your machines including the main PC.

Again, Good Luck.

Thanks Jim

I'll try that if and when I start having problems again. I'm not sure why the Bridge's all form... but they do. Even the way it's set up now it's bridged.

I can post screens of the current (working) set up also if that helps.

I think the bridge is to connect all the PCs to each other.

The bridges are between the 1394's and the Local Area Networks.

It's something with the card in each machine... it bridges them (the two pieces).

A network bridge in XP and Server 2003 is a simple way to allow through traffic from one network card/device to another that is on the same machine.

If the 1394 connection is firewire, it shouldn't be bridged with the LAN connection. Some servers have more that one network card as a backup simply because a network card will not give you an indication that it is going bad. It either works or it doesn't. I have two network cards on my server and have them both connected to the network, just in case one fails, I still have a network connection.

I just moved my modem into the Kitchen... so I can start shutting this main PC down and not kill the Internet connection at night, not to mention the switch/router, etc are all in there too.

DNS2GO connected back here in my room... kinda made me wonder for a sec, but Jeff says he can't see a file I had him test, so it must just be internal. Going to make sure I set the Vaio up right as a server. I put Apache/Commanche, DNS2GO, and Serv-U on it tonight in place of this machine.
