I've got to go along with the 'big bang' theory also. There are many religions, and many of them have their different approaches to how the universe started. Many theoretical things of the past are now being proven true. I think you must keep a very open mind on everything and their possibilities, and expect that many beliefs of the past will be shattered as we learn more about the world we live in and it's universe.

There is a real problem with religion and science as show on this thread.

mmmm dont know why there is other plannets .. but im happy we have em as without them we wouldnt have a universe or gravity .. so basically you wouldnt be having this convo without them ..lol

Sorry Plazmo I have to correct you on something, we would have a universe and gravity even if Earth was the only planet. The universe would just be a lot smaller, and gravity is by mass of each object eg. the gravity of the Earth is due to the mass of the planet itself and not external forces. The only external force that interviens is the rotation of the earth creating a centrifugal force which counter acts some of the forces of gravity. But then centrifugal force is dependent on the mass of the object, the speed of rotation, and the distance from the center. And so on and so forth.
Little off topic but I thought it to be relievent

mmmm..
i was on the understanding that it was the rotation of the moon going round earth that gave us more gravity than other plannets.. along with the rotation and spinning of earth round the sun ..
plus i seen a program about ice age .. and they took slices of the earths layers and discoverd the last ice age we had didnt happen over years it just happend .. how much of that is true i dont know ..
im gonna stop watching geographics and discovery if they was wrong about the moon creating gravity ..lol
cheers for the info

Our moon does pull on the earth... but it is the pull of the earths gravity that holds the moon in it's place. But the pull of the moon causes things like our tides for example, as I'm sure you knew. It's cool to watch it in 3D models... watching the bulge of water travel over the globe (and always on exact opposite sides... hence why two tides daily).
If the moon wasn't in our orbit... we wouldn't have tides, but I'm not sure what other effects that might have on the oceans... possibly more stagnation and salinity.

Well possibly there could be another Ice Age. But the main concern is greenhouse gases. People with older cars and other high polluters are making huge holes in the ozone. The earth wouldn't explode. However, it might IMplode, because the core of the earth would stop rotating, causing worldwide devastation within 6 months of the rotation ceasing. For more information, watch "The Core." It's very informational, yet not boring.
