my friend just acquired a computer and it is hp8560c. anyway it is a celeron 500 mhz. i know that celerons get up to 2 ghz. i am just wondering if we could just buy a new processor and stick it in there. i guess my question is how easy would it be to upgrade the processor becuase they computer isnt half bad really. 256 ram and 32 mb video card, etc etc. thanks

I don't think Celerons of this this family ( PII or PIII celerons ) overclock up to 2GHz. IMHO goes up to 800 or 900 MHz top.

I think he is talking about replasing the old celeron with a new one.

not really i couldnt find much info on it. i found one pdf file but it didnt have any real specs for it.

well i didnt know that there are different generations of celerons. well anyway what would be the best way to upgrade this processor?

If the PC's primary function is for word processing and internet use, I'd skip the processor upgrade and buy more RAM. It'll be difficult to ascertain the correct celeron (P2 or P3 base) and which permutations of celerons will fit which motherboards. An easier band-aid would be to just purchase the maximum amount of RAM. 256MB's could make a significant difference in perceived performance.

Sorry if that wasn't much help. It's hard to know without the specs of the motherboard. Some of them that are older probably won't have a BIOS update to allow the board to handle a much bigger processor because those sizes just weren't available back then. If you could find out more, maybe we'll be able to help you more.
