OK, as some of you may know, I recently had an external HD die on me. So, I picked up 2 new ones to test drive. I have the following models:

LaCie 160GB FireWire 300702U

Iomega 120GB USB 2.0/FireWire 32659

I've read a mix of reviews on both models, but the negative ones on the Iomega were VERY negative.

I'm not sure which one to keep. There are pros and cons to both: the LaCie unit has a larger capacity, but it's not designed to be portable per se; the Iomega unit feels solid and appears to be designed for portability (which is important to me), but its capacity is 75% that of the LaCie and Iomega hasn't exactly had the best reputation (speaking especially of the ZIP and Jazz drives).

Any opinions?

I guess by the date, you've made up your mind by now....
I have 2 of the Lacie drives, and use them heavily for video editing, they haven't missed a beat with fairly constant use.
I think the heavy-metal case makes this one ideal for portability (albeit, a little heavy)

I'd go for the Iomega. I had an experience with their 200GB drive and in terms of speed was very good.

Believe it or not, I haven't made up my mind yet. I'm still holding on to a LaCie 160 FireWire and I have a Seagate 160GB that I plan on sticking into an Iogear enclosure (whenever it comes in the mail...).

If I don't like the Iogear unit, I'll just stick with the Lacie.
