In most cases If you are doing extreme gameing it would be nessisary for a larger on chip cache (buffering ram) witch the Intel Pentium is designed for, Internet browsing on the otherhand dosnt requier mutch to get it going I"ve seen 133 mhz systems still do the job.. I Have an Intel pentium 3, an Amd 1800 Laptop, and a celeron 1.8 ghz... and have built about 35 custome systems. I can tell you the durability is the same, price is not nor the bus speed celerons, todays any how are pentiums modified out of traidmark you might get the same chip but less cache, or a differant core material. I have not yet been disatified with a celeron or an AMD yet, but I know that dell computers are contracted thrue Intel. so no amd there. I'd go with the Celeron.. I'ts cheaper... Maybe for the price differance you can upgrade to a cd burner?

Welcome ward107, his parents already got a pentium and I would personally recommend one because there is not that big gap of price difference.

Actually both processors are quite limited in my opinion. I would recommend an AMD Athlon XP processor (I have a 3000+). But by your description, they don't need all the bells & whistles, just functionality. I would go with the Pentium.

No question about it get the Pentium 4 and do what I do make the computer yourself its alot cheaper and its fun to make.
I would get cereon if you are just doing basic stuff, the processors usually don't make a difference until you make your computer to heavier work.
He is wrong onless you want a slow start up time gameing takes alot up just got for the Pentium then you will not have to pay more when you want to upgarde the world is growing and electronics is growing you will need the pentium.

The folks are having a computer built by Dell (please hold all Dell vs. other competitor comments), I need some opinions on which Intel processor for them to get....Celeron or Pentium. It will only be used for internet surfing, email, a few minor internet games, some word processing and a few spread sheets.
So, would you go with an Intel Celeron or a Pentium? |
man guys im sorry but u guys are all way out of line (most of u) celeron is a peice of s**t
this is the truth... i had 2 computers, both formatted with same HDs, memory. 1 had a 233 mhz pentium pro (I), and the other 733 mhz...
i had, believe it or not, win xp pro on BOTH, and the 233 was much more reliable than the celeron.... celeron sucks..... and, when u compare celeron to pentium 4, there is no competition!
