i read somewhere that intel uses celeron to hold off amd, while amd use duron to compete with intel celeron.
one thing is clear though, all intel processors fit in the sockets, thus upgrading won't be problem.
intel pentium is very good for graphic designers and also for video encoding/decoding.
moreover, if you do not compare those processors with a program like 3dmark you will never notice the difference

I'm a Pentium fan over Celeron myself...

I've not heard good things about the Celerons.

I know celerons arnt the best, but ive had my 700mhz for 4 years, most of which ive had it overclocked to 866mhz, and its still running good. but this is just an opinion.

Cererons are probably the best processors for oc, especially the 600mhz ones, you can double it's speed.

Add to it the 1,8 and 2,4 ones.
I've seen one 1,8 working @ 2,8GHz ( watercooled ) with no problem and the benchmarks' results were similar to a 2,53GHz PIV.
For the 2,4 I've read on PCmag that OCed at 3,6 and was stable. They used an Intel fun though so didn't keep it there for long. 1,2 GHz is like you add another CPU.
