I love Google myself... but I do worry how close they watch us.

In reality, Yahoo is even worse from what I was reading earlier today.

what did you find out about yahoo? just curious cause i like yahoo more than google, although google used to power yahoo searches at one point.

if google is bad, then why does mozilla search from there when you search from the address bar?

if i learn too much i might have to switch search engines

Do you guys remember the good old days, when you could type just about anything in a search engine and end up with pornography? Those times have changed, because of user tracking.

The popularity of sites is a big factor now in the rankings. Thats why you can type in an obscure word in such as "fruitcake" in google and get a bakery in the first position instead of a gay porn site.

Tracking is a good thing, however (marginally) intrusive it might be.

I too found this site from google, and I use the google toolbar. I happen to love google. They are on eof the few sites that dont give you a ton of pop ups and sneaker spyware programs, like lycos crap and .net search crap. ($.02)

I have to admit yet again I'm still in love with Google myself. Google honestly makes or breaks us, and not just on this forum but ALL our other websites we run too, especially the big "cash cow" one we own for finacial support.

A lot of good points made here.

Well even if Google does all those things (which it shouldn't) it is still my favorite search engine. It doesn't give you a million sponsored ads and results when you search for things. And the things that are sponsored you can ignore b/c they appear on the right panel of your browser window. Plus it has great Boolean search features that some other companies lack. And it's not owned by a company that would try to gain control over everything (i.e. Microsoft)

Google images in invaluable. That alone makes it the only thing I can use... unless other searches do images as well.
