I have found this "tweak" to improve the preformance of longhorn immensly especially on lower-end pc's. Im using longhorn(4051pdc) on a penitum celeron anino clocked at 1.6ghz. Now here we go:

1. Right click computer in your start menu and click on properties
2. Click the advanced tab
3. Click the settings button under the performace section
4. Click the advance tab
5. Click the button that says "change" under the Virtual memory section.
6. Change the initial size to 1500 and the maximum size to 1500

If you don't have a large hardisk I would suggest either buying a new one or putting up to the most you can.

On another note....

I belive i may have found a soultion the the delay when explorer is loading. This would be perhaps using hibrenate(sp) instead of fully shutting down. Haven't tested yet though.

Will post an update after I try.

-update

the hibrinate(sp) theory works but the only problem is that when the computer restores it sets your desktop at a horrible resolution and only 4 bit color which I couldn't chage without a lockup

Im trying to find a work-around for this issue now.

Keep up the good work, methix, no one has been able to fix the task bar startup issue yet.

just a quick note - I have heard and experience reports of winamp 5 crashing upon opening. Changing the compatability mode to windows 98 and disableing themes allows you to use the program even with the error box open.

and here are a few things that i have found NOT to work-
die hard nakatomi plaza
winamp5 (semi working)

And DO work-
AOL Instant Mesenger
Rainbow Six 3
Soldier of Fortune 2

i think there is a specific place where you post the compatibility of programs, I'll try to keep an eye out for it.

Try to post all the hardware compatibility here, we're trying to keep everything as orgnized as possible.
