Jump In & Take Control Of These Games

The holidays will soon be upon us, which means the time to go out and buy gifts for family and friends is quickly nearing. You can never go wrong buying computer games for the people in your life (especially us computer geeks, we love them). So to help you make your choices, we’ve put together this roundup of great games. Any of them would make a great gift under the tree or in a stocking.

Fly carefully with your wingmates as you make an attack run on the Velians in Echelon.
Echelon
ETA: Now
Developer: Buka Entertainment
Publisher: Bethesda Softworks

Echelon is a fast-paced shoot ‘em up game. Unlike Star Wars though, you’re not part of the rebellion. Instead you’re part of an elite force trying to put down a troublesome rebellion on the planet Velian. The Velians have become part of the Galactic Federation and their technology, called null-t (null-transport), has been absorbed into the Federation’s economy. The null-t devices turn out to be Trojan horses, however, and soon the Velians use them as bases to attack the Federation.

To accomplish your missions you will choose from 14 different aircraft. The emphasis in Echelon is on action more than realism; at times the ships are able to do things that real planes would never be able to do because of the laws of physics. However, the game never claims to be a true flight simulator. Instead it lands somewhere in the middle between simulator and action game.
