i have installed LH 4051 and the installation worked fine, but when i installed printer driver for my hp 5150 it prompted me that my os doesn't match for best performance. i clicked 'continue anyway' but now i can't set up my printer cause it prompts me that printer is not installed properly so i should install it again (which i did, several times). also, when i start LH it hangs for a while (minute or so, desktop is active but taskbar is hourglassed), is it normal or what?

Hey Guys,

I am also having a problem with printers. When I install my HP DeskJet, everything goes fine. When I look in Printers and Faxes it is there and ready to go. However, when I try to print from any application, no printers are avialable to select in the printers window. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Elz

Both of these may be more of LH's hardware incompatibility issues...I do hope someone comes along with a better answer... hmmm

Actually,

I can get output from the printer -- if I print a test page from the printer properties screen it comes out fine. The only problem is if I try to print from IE or Word, etc. there are no printers in the dialogue box.

thats a driver issue i suspect, maybe try nt or 2k drivers for your printer, can get those from your printers vendor. let us know how it goes

Here is the issue with the HP printers and LH XP. If you dont install the HP drivers from there site and use the M$ ones heres what happens. Every time you reboot you will need to go to the device manager then select the LPT port go to the properties then the port settings tab. Make sure the Enable legacy plug and play is checked, then above alternate between the Never use an interrupt and Use any interrupt assigned to the port. The device manger tree will refresh and you should be able to print. This is the only way Ive gotten my deskjet1120c to work in LH and XP with out installing the whole printer software from HP. They dont even make drivers for my printer for XP so I use the 2K ones and they seem to work.

I've just installed an Epson C70 Plus. I had to do a few things on the way.

1. Start the Print Spool services. You can do this through the Admin tools in the Control Panel.

2. Also had probs with my CDROM drive so had to fix that too. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=314060 for a description of the fix if you need it.

3. Printer had to be set up manually as LH wasn't picking up the printer from the USB.

Hope this helps.

most printers will work just fine driver, since they are {usb] plug and play and longhorn, all versions, xp or w2k support usb one might not need to install any printer driver to get it going.

besides EJOSEPH suggestion, make sure your printer is on while installing longhorn or any OS, remove any driver installed and restart while your printer is power on
