Greetings,
Nearing three weeks ago I had installed Microsoft Longhorn build 4029 alongside my XP system, and I went into many, many problems. I ended up formatting my whole hard drive while trying to make it work. I am not creating a dual-boot OS again, but I would still like to look through Longhorn and what it brings.
So, I wanted to install Longhorn as my main Operating System on another older computer that I tend not to use, and would be some good use for testing. But this older computer is, well, old, and I'm not sure if Longhorn will even be able to remain stable or operate right.
The specifications:
4Gig Harddrive capacity
128Mg RAM
Pentium 2 MMX (Or MAX, I'm not certain)
I heard that the Microsoft requirements for XP can be taken even lower (on the disadvantage that some features would be unoperational) and was wondering who here is running Longhorn on a similair system I have just mentioned, have tried to, or simply know it's not possible.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

OOO no no no bad bad bad
It says 128MB Minimum but really when Microsoft issues a minimum, double the minimum requirements to get the REAL minimum requirement. Such as WinXP already runs crappy on 128MB, I wouldn't dare try run it on 64MB.
I wouldn't dare try and install Longhorn on your computer. The parts are too old. I suggest getting a new computer.
If you wanted to dual boot Longhorn 3GB of your 4GB HD needs to be split so it really isn't a good idea.
Your Pentium 2 might run Longhorn (BTW its MMX not MAX. MMX means Multi-Media eXtensions). If its a high end P2 (466MHz), you might have a chance. Anything lower I would say forget it.
Your best possible chance is to get a new computer and I would highly recommend getting a new one. They are not that expensive these days.
See my laptop is an Athlon XP-M 1.8GHz (2200+) and it has 448MB of RAM (64 is allocated to the IGP). And longhorn spits out 40MB of RAM and the CPU is almost always being used at 100% all the time my svchost.exe (pisses me off too cause there happen to be muliple svchost.exe s running).
Of course if you still want to run it (I don't think you want to)
Read my LH 4029 guide and be sure to make good use of the LH 4015 tweaking guide.

I thank you for your reply, Computerwiz.
Like I mentioned in my previous post, I had done a dual-boot of Longhorn and XP (On a computer that was quite capable of handling both) but I ran into some problems involving the Boot Screen and the OS selection prompt. I tried to delete Longhorn because it was conflicting with almost all my hardware. After uninstalling, however, I was still getting a Start-up OS-selection command prompt, and I tried to delete this by editing the boot.ini, but I had deleted the wrong lines. Thus, I formatted because I couldn't access XP anymore.
I chose the 4Gig computer because it's the only one I have that doesn't really have any data on, and is hardly ever used anymore. If the system can't cope, then I'll just wait for a more later version (Beta, perhaps) and see how much of my hardware is compatible.

chances are if that System can run XP, LH will run on it too since the Alpha version isn't too far off from the XP core.
Try it. See if it works. I thought you meant you wanted adual boot on that thing lol sorry about that
And your problem... you could have fixed that with the System Recovery tool in the Windows XP Setup CD

ComputerWiz, I had tried to fix it with my Dell XP CDs Reinstall function, but by nearing around to 24-minutes left when 'Installing Drivers' it gave me a "BAD_POOL_CALLER" error and dumped all my memory. I had tried with taking devices at the back of my system in and out, but it came coming up with the same thing, so I had to reformat.
I was having the worst luck during that time.
Well, I'll try installing XP on the system, see how it performs, and if it can support then I'll try out Longhorn. If not, I'll talk to a friend of mine about upgrading the system with a few parts (or buying another cheap yet useful test-based system altogether).
