Seems as though DDR adds no performance gain to the new macs. The bottleneck is the processors now. The only gain from switching to DDR is the raise in the max RAM from 1.5GB to 2GB. Is a bit dissapointing but hopefully the switch to IBM PowerPC chips will surpass this bottleneck in the near future.

I thought that they were extremely powerful... :o
Like isn't there 1 GHz or something? Which is pretty much in the world of PowerPCs...

They are powerful. The new line consists of a Dual 867, Dual 1GB and Dual 1.25. All of these are using DDR. The bad thing is since the processor is the bottleneck the Dual 1GB on PC133 performs exactly the same as the Dual 1GB on DDR.

You mean that the processor has a low FSB?

Nothing to do with the FSB. The FSB is actually 25% faster.
"The main problem hobbling the PowerMac is the CPU to System Controller Bus, i.e. the System Bus. What is "starved" is not the memory. What is starved are the CPUs of the PowerMac. They are capable of processing much faster than the system can feed it data. This has been a known, nagging, problem with the G4 processor in its current implementation. By design, the PowerPC 7450 used in current PowerMacs CANNOT receive data at faster than 1.3 GBPS speed. "

Look at THIS test performed by BareFeats.
