Hi,

I successfully dual-booted Windows XP and Vista, and used VistaBootPro to restore the boot loader. I Successfully entered Windows XP and then after restarting, successfully entered Vista, but now when the Operating System selector comes up and I want to boot into XP, it comes up with:

Code:
Windows failed to start. A hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:

1. Insert Windows installation disk then restart
2. Choose language settings and then click Next
3. Click repair your computer

If you don't have this disk then contact the administrator

File \ ntldr
Status: 0xc000000e
Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt

Any ideas on how to fix this problem? Or is it simply a case of using VistaBootPro all the time to restore booting into XP?

rushhour - I have a nearly identical problem in that I get the same error message when attempting to boot to XP after ghost/cloning my original XP drive to a larger drive. I was able to dual boot no problem before but now I can't boot from the Boot Manager screen into XP. I don't have a solution yet either and am waiting for a response to my last question.

Try the guide below.

Your three files for XP to boot are not in the correct location

rushhour,

Can you post a the contents of VBP -> Overview -> All? I think it is just a matter of an incorrect setting for your partition drive for XP.

I now have the three xp files in the root directory of both drives (XP and Vista) and I still have the same problem as rushhour.

rushhour, you need to check and see if you have the 3 files, NTDETECT, NTLDR, and boot.ini, in the root directory of the drive marked as system, boot, in your didk management screen.

If you will reread you may figure out that I was trying to help. Unless I'm mistaken this is a public forum. I did not hijack "your" thread at all. My problem was very similar to yours.

Despite the similar canned advice I was given the location of the boot files was not the issue and it may not be in your situation. When you upgrade a hard drive you typically clone it and ghost was the original application to accomplish that task.

I can't seem to find them, I have unchecked the the box for the 'hide protected operating system files' but I do not see them. I assume I have to look in the System folder on my XP drive?
