i have dual booted vista and xp and it works great but i am trying to use xp to play a closed realm game. my internet options and networks are sayin that i need a modem and i am on a laptop. i need to know how to get xp to link to my router. ive tried everything up to hooking a ethernet cable directly to yhe router and still no signal in xp. i have also already installed service pack 2 to the xp as well and stuck again.

Have you setup a wireless connection on your laptop?

Do you have any network adapters showing up in Device manager, if not then you need to install a driver for it, e.g. add new hardware in control panel

Do either of them have a yellow flag by them, because it seems like the pci device should be named e.g. like PCI-E gigabit ethernet controller
You may have to update the driver for it to get it to work.
