When I run a Command Prompt it always opens with C:\Documents and Settings\Mark> and then the flashing cursor. Shouldn't it just open with C: and then the cursor? Is there a setting I can change to fix it?

Thanks

Mark

It's the same here Mark, this is the name you gave it when installing XP. You can probably change it from properties from 'My Computer'. I don't want to test it as I am networked and it took me long enough to get it working.

You need to make some registry changes. Type regedit into the Run dialog box and then go to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment

If you don't have a String Value named Prompt then you must create one by right clicking Environment in the left hand pane and select New>String Value. Once that is done name your new String Value Prompt in the right hand pane and then right click Prompt, select Modify and add Value data of C:\

If there is already a String Value named Prompt then simply Modify the path already there.

Restart your system to have the changes registered and test the command prompt smile

Standard Cautionary: Modifying your registry can result in your system becoming unstable or non-functioning and it's suggested you back up the keys you intend to modify.
