So, I've been watching the opening ceremonies and thought why not start a thread. I got a treat today as I finally saw the Lithuanian contingent as all the other years the TV stations would break for ads. I hope we kick some basketball butt this time around. smilenod

Parents are from there, I was born here. Wow, quite a dramatic lighting of the flame. They must have the largest monitor in the world, goes all the way around the stadium. Of course, the fireworks were well done!

We don't get to see it live here in the US (not where I am, anyway). It will be on at 8 PM Eastern tonight on NBC.

However, I was live on Yahoo with a friend from Brunei (who was watching it live) at the exact moment that the announcer said that Brunei had been expelled from the games. Apparently they did not register in time and were told that they could not compete or even march in the ceremony.

It has surprised me that NBC has paid huge money again and not even shown the opening ceremonies live. At 10 o'clock EST, all there is the infinitely stupid Today Show. Give them a bloody holiday man. I just don't get it! confused

I'm glad you posted this bc I thought I was missing it, LOL. I figured we were on a standard delay as always when it's on the other side of the world.
