I have just purchased a notebook with no operating system. I am trying to install vista but cant seem to install from the disc. PC prompts following - 'CD BOOT - Couldn't find BOOTMGR' What do i do from here?

Yes it is. My notebook specs follow -
Optical device - dual layer multiburner drive (DVD-RW)
Intel® Core®2 Duo processor T5750 (2.0GHz, 667 MHz, 2MB L2 Cache)
Current operating system - ms dos
Memory - 2GB
HD - 160GB SATA HDD (5400rpm)

I dont know. It is just a disc in a jacket. It belongs to a friend of mine and he said he would share it with me so i could save.

I have gone through the vista installation guide here and everywhwere else and browsed through the forum but there doesn't seem to be a solution mentioned for this kind of situation.

someone else will surely tell you that what your are trying to do is illegal, unless it is a retail copy, and your friend has removed it from his or her computer, it is illegal for you to load it on yours.

Purchased retail copies of Vista can be transfered to another computer.

OEM copies of Vista, once activated, have been locked to that system.

You will need to purchase Vista for your system.
