Vista 32 or 64 bit?

And are you using the Soundmax Superbeam array mic that came with the motherboard?

It came with my Crosshair. I just assumed it would come with the other high end boards with the SoundMAX chip in it. I haven't checked to see if yours came with it or not.

Are you using the driver off of the CD or the latest driver from Asus's site? Version 6.10.X.6480.

I had the same issue with Vista64 and my mic. I found that driver version 6.10.1.6270 worked for me where the others did not.

I have since switched over to the Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty card so can not say how the newest driver works for me.

would going out and buying a cheap sound card fix this problem? or is it with something in the board?

From your searching for a solution for your problem, you prolly saw all the posts/pages of problems with vista and SoundMAX. XP support is great, but not so much with Vista.

Even though I got mine to eventually work. I had several problems using TeamSpeak and Ventrilo. So I finally said heck with it and got a new sound card.

I personally prefer hardware driven sound cards over software driven sounds cards anyway. So my vote is get you a decent sound card and disable the onboard.

My .02 cents
