Originally I had XP on this box and then installed Vista as dual boot on a second hard drive. When I was happy with VISTA I removed XP. The result is that my system now requires both hard drives to function.

System Disk is D:\ (System, Active, Primary Partition)
Vista is on C:\ (Boot, Page File, Active, Primary Partition)

My problem is that I need to clone drive C and replace it with a larger hard drive but am having difficulty doing so. I thought it would be as simple as:

add a new hard drive
cloning C to new drive
shut down remove the original C replacing it with the clone

Wrong!

Is it possible to make C my system disk, rather than D? I read elsewhere on this forum that I should be able to copy the boot folder and some other files. However BSD in the boot folder cannot be copied as it is in use.

I feel that if I can get the system running with one hard drive then I should be able to clone it to a larger disk.

From within Vista, delete D partition, then boot to Vista DVD and run a startup repair.
