Hey all, i've recently re-registered due to this problem which has been happening on and off for roughly a month now.

When it does occur I am unable to access secure websites such as HSBC Banking, Coral Betting and even the secure areas of Eve-Online where my account subscription details are held.
The problem is highly intermittent though and sometimes i can go 24hours without a system hang when viewing secure sites, and other times it will occur 4-5 times in a row always freezing as the secure site loads.
The only solution to to the hang is to shut-down and restart.

This occurs in both Internet Explorer and Firefox and therefore i can only summise it is a Vista issue and not a broswer related problem.

Other than that my pc has never frozen and has been 100% stable since the Vista install.

Operating System: Windows Vista™ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6000) (6000.vista_gdr.071023-1545)
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: MSI
System Model: MS-7260
BIOS: Default System BIOS
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+ (2 CPUs), ~2.2GHz
Memory: 2046MB RAM
Page File: 1092MB used, 3220MB available
Windows Dir: C:\Windows
DirectX Version: DirectX 10
DX Setup Parameters: Not found
DxDiag Version: 6.00.6000.16386 32bit Unicode

These specs are straight out of DXDiag.

Also have XFX Geforce 7900GS and a Seagate 300GB SATAII. Both updated with the latest drivers.

Anti-virus is AVG8 - updated and regular system scans. Nothing present aside from the odd tracking cookie which is promptly deleted.

Anti-spyware is Spybot S&D - again updated and regular scans and all clean.

Standard Windows Firewall.

This issue did not occur once in Windows XP and seems to occur quite randomly.
Hangs or blips do not occur on any other websites or with any other programs.

I have re-installed Vista twice now and the problem continues to occur.

edit: have attempted "netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled" from an elevated CMD prompt under instruction from another site, but yet to see if it fixes anything.

Dang, was going to suggest that. furious

If that doesn't fix it, it's got to be something wrong with the internet settings.

Open I.E. then
Try the "Tools" on the menu at top right,
The "Internet Options"
Then the "Advanced Tab"
Then toward the botton "Reset" button

the problem has become less frequent after the netsh global autotuninglevel change, but still occurs on some sites.

have followed all guides but still it occurs every now and again.

is there anyway to enable SSL2.0 in firefox3? As that is another suggestion i hav heard.

Have you tried to flush the DNS.

Open command prompt, type "ipconfig /flushdns" without the quotes
hit enter

See if that might help.

thanks for the suggestion, have tried it but unfortunately it occured again yesterday whilst making an online purchase for a new pair of boardshorts!

it only occurs on secure websites and therefore all i can conclude is that both IE and Firefox (and from this i summise Vista) have a huge issue with secure certificates.

what is odd is that this does not occur 100% of the time. like i said before it can be almost continuous for an hour, and then i can go 24hours without running into a single problem.

so far i have:
Anti-virus and anti-spyware scans
netsh autotuninglevel=disabled
flushdns

uninstalled and reinstalled both IE and Firefox and cleared all settings/cookies/temp folders and certificates on both.

checked IE to use SSL2.0 (this has produced some slight reliability in IE) but firefox has no option.

If you can please run a scan with

ESET Online Scanner

and try

Sunbelt Software Counterspy

CounterSpy will run for 15 days, after that it will not update anymore.
