also notice on the qvl only the highend pc9200 and 9600 chips d9gct and gkx chips are listed? the board definately likes nice ram. it did not appreciate the cheapstuff, tho not all gmh is bad, but alot of the later stuff is. gskill makes very good ram i think.. check them out if youd like, its what i usually use, i just dont want to chance them in the summer heat, they are special |
I was just doing some reading over at ncix about the the RAM, and he was recommending the G-Skill Blues and as the guy is a VIP member, I guess I can trust him but I'd still like to hear your take on these.
Pretty good prices so far, along with the mobo/CPU/RAM I'm getting a Coolermaster CM 690 case, a WD 640GB Caviar plus some odds and ends for $665 CDN plus S&H and tax. Oh, I have a spare Thermaltake TruePower 420W which should do very well. I'm giving up on the search for 1066 RAM and stick with the 800's instead. I doubt I'd notice much difference in performance anyways.
I'm just waiting now for paypal to verify my account, been 2 business days so far and they say 3-5. I'm itching now!

Thanks for the opinions all. I just ordered the Intel today and hopefully Paypal won't delay the process as they say 6-8 business days for payment from a Canadian bank. Aack! Whatever happened to computer transactions? I now have ants in my pants as I haven't built a rig in three years! New toy and all.

What CPU did you end up going with, Q6600?

You will certainly see an improvement over what you have been running. I had an advantage as I had built systems for other people prior to building my own, so I knew how blazing the Q6600 was and just couldn't wait until I could build myself one. When the price got to around $200 I got one of my own.

I am very happy with my P5B Deluxe and Intel Q6600, stable, quick, and easily overclockable (if need be)

yep, ive had the p5b-d, bought it when it came out new, it was a great board. it was my first intel board after i had ran amd for 3 years before that. with my old 6300, it did 525fsb like a champ, that same cpu did 535fsb on my old p5k-d. intel chipsets are great

Wow, after Paypal kept my money for a week I got an e-mail stating that my order was finally shipped. I was so happy until I opened it and the e-mail said that the mobo was now on B/O! The site says 'usually ships in 2-5 business days'. It's going to be torture seeing all those pretty boxes sitting there with absolutely no immediate purpose. I guess I'll read the mobo manual until I memorize it.
