hey

when i log onto XP pro (service pack2) explorer.exe keeps crashing in a loop. it restarts for about 10 seconds then crashes.

now i know this isnt much to go on, so what can i do to provide enough info to help?

i have tried sfc /scannow with no change.

It's very difficult to determine causes of a crash like that. See if you can find an event number at the time of a crash in Event Viewer - right click My Computer>Manage>System Tools>Event Viewer>System.

Is there any software you installed or something else you can think of that you did or that changed before the explorer crashes started?

there is nothing in the event view that matches the time it started happening. the last program i installed was a proxy changer, spybot's teatimer thing popped up the corner about 20 mins after a ran the program advising me of a change (i cant recall what it was) i denyed the change, but it kept popping up that spybot was blocking it, i got worried so i uninstalled the proxy changer.

first restart after that it started happening (also no system restore point before then) i trying uninstalling and re-installing spybot incase it was whatever i set it to blcok, but no joy.

not to nag or anything, the problem is still happening, any ideas please? can i copy explorer.exe from my xp disc or something??

You should be able to repair your Windows installation by booting from your Windows XP disc. This page seems to have a good tutorial on how to perform the repair.

With the windows kernel replaced by a repair install that can only mean a installed program is causing this. Looks like a format and reinstall is necessary and then you'll need to monitor what programs you install to see which one is the culprit.

I guess you could try unintalling any programs that were installed just prior to this starting to happen to see if that makes a difference first.

Have you checked your memory by the way? Memtest86 is good

i tried uninstalling the most recent programs, no joy.

im running vista dual boot on the same computer so i dont think its the memory.

i give up.
