Daniel Radcliffe, the star of the Harry Potter film franchise, will make his Broadway debut on Sept. 5, reprising his acclaimed turn in Equus, producers announced Tuesday.

Radcliffe stars as the disturbed stable boy in a revival of the Peter Shaffer play.

The 18-year-old earned rave reviews for his performance in the London production of the Tony Award-winning play. He also received media attention for appearing naked onstage — a departure from his wholesome image as the titular bespectacled boy wizard in the big-screen adaptations of J.K. Rowling's bestselling fantasy novels.

Equus begins previews Sept. 5 for a limited 22-week run at the Broadhurst Theatre. The play opens Sept. 25 and runs to Feb. 8, 2009, with Thea Sharrock directing.

Stage veteran Richard Griffiths, who portrays Harry's mean Uncle Vernon in the Harry Potter movies, also reprises his London role as the psychiatrist who treats Radcliffe's stable boy, who has blinded six horses.

...and now for something completely different. Quite a role to play and good for him to start distancing himself from the Potter character.

On a related note. This came across my desk this morning. He'll be on a PBS show this month as well.

Masterpiece Classic: My Boy Jack is the story of Rudyard Kipling’s song Jack, who triggered a bitter family conflict when he joined the Irish Guard at the outset of World War I. Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) stars as Jack. April 20 at 9 p.m.

One would think that getting a part in such a huge movie series would do wonders for one's career, but the problem is that it seems to follow you for ever.

I liked how they had to put Harry Potter in parenthesis to further explain who they were talking about.

I thought that was funny to. I wonder how long Drew Barrymore was that "little girl" in ET before she was given more respect.
