Greetings all.

First off, VBP is a brilliant program. It's made life alot easier for Vista users, so cheers plenty.

There is a slight problem though, and it's in regard to disabling Driver Signing in Vista x64 with Service Pack 1 installed....VBP v3.3 does not disable it an longer.

Unfortunately, there are some drivers which I have that are not digitally signed, and I require to use them in Vista. So...

1.) Is it possible to disable driver signing in SP1?

2.) If not a.t.m, is PRONetworks working on a means to do so (which will be included in a future release)?

I believe I, among alot of other x64 users, are really wondering if it's possible....from what I know, MS have closed the prior "openings".....

It's no longer possible with SP1 by any means or method that worked previously, as you mention ready2rumbelX, well other than pressing F8 and going that route each time you boot up.

This is one of my pet dislikes for the way MS goes about things, effectively placing the burden on the consumer to sort out the driver writers. Future versions of VBP will have that functionality removed.

It is annoying that MS have done this, but it's promising that VBP is intending on removing this aggravation.

I assume requesting a time frame for the next release of VBP is out of the question?

For now, i've discovered that it's possible to sign your own drivers (even though it's considered "test" mode).

So I am going to try that, or revert back to XP and wait for the next release of VBP and have not to worry about this annoying driver signing.

Technically speaking, MS is placing that burden on the hardware manufacturers rather than the end customers, although those with pre-2007 hardware, motherboards especially -- and those using certain pre-2007 software written for XP and using unsigned software drivers -- are currently paying the price of a F8 click.

If you can sign your own drivers, that would DEFINITELY be a good way forward

I do not have SP1 yet it still doesnt disable the driver sign enforcement... I may not be doing something correctly though.... I mentions that Vista is either not installed or loaded on a hidden driver when the program starts so maybe that has something do to with it?

Hmm....I wonder why it's not working.....

If you haven't installed SP1, then this should work without fail. Just enter the program, click on the third button from the left ( "Advanced Settings" ) which brings up a page saying 'Advanced BCD Registry Settings'. There's a box where you choose the O/S and there's a check-box near the bottom saying 'Disable Vista Driver Signing (64-Bit Only - Requires Restart).

So choose your O/S from the list and activate the check-box. Apply the setting and reboot. You can tell it's working if you go back in the program, after rebooting, and the check-box is still active (i.e. ticked).

Hope this helps, cause it should work....

Note: It is important to stress that, although you can downlaod this SDK, you may not strip any contents and distribute as such: i.e. you can't take the few files that are needed for this operation and archive them & distribute.

You must download the entire 2.1gb image.....taking content out of this image and distributing seperately is considered a violation in the EULA....or something like that....

@ masterosok. There are patches that MS applied pre-SP1 that "disabled" the ability to disable the driver signing requirement. One can go through a process to identify which they are and then not install those. There's a thread on that somewhere, either in this forum or the Vista Boot Problems forum.
