hey guys,

I have a new Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition server setup at home. I pretty much use it as a file server and a printer server. But I want to use it also as a web server also. Before I had this machine, I used Apache on 2003 Server in VMware - it worked fine. I don't know much about Apache, one of my friend who is a Unix Sys Admin set it up for me. I was wondering if I should go with Apache or IIS 6 on my new machine.

I will be hosting couple of domains on this server. My main concern is security. I usually throw in my projects from school and I don't want anybody screwing around with my box or taking it down.

My server specs is in my Signature

let me know guys!
thank you so much!

Hmm...
I'd imagine IIS would be more secure since it's part of Server 2008
But I've just always used Apache, to me it seems to have more features than IIS

I think Apache is the better choice. When I used my box as a server I used it. We also use Apache on our *nix box here at PRO.

WAMP just makes the install go a lot faster. less to mess around with and configure.

if your a first time apache user then use wamp as its just that WAMP server... Windows Apache Mysql PHP. all the things you will need for a simple website.. and if you want to use asp codeing then you can add the support for that later.

IMHO a WAMP server is more secure then a IIS server.

when i was first getting into *Nix and Apache and web development i used VMware workstation and setup a linux install ( Debian Sarge ) with apache php and mysql installed, so that if someone did hack it i could easily just restart the system and were back to normal. using a "snapshot" of the VMWare HDD to restore back to normall, and i updated the HDD after each update to the site.
